Revtangen BO May 10th-21st

The last 10 days have been dominated by cold north and northwest, and trapping was only attempted at 4 days. On the 20th, the wind finally turned south and the temperature rose to 14 degrees in the afternoon. A bit too strong SSE on the 21st did not result in any significant arrival of migrants. While trapping has been slow, there was good movements of seabirds and loons past Revtangen in northwest wind on the 16th-17th, including more than 50 Pomarine Skuas, a similar number of Arctic Skuas, 8 Long-tailed Skuas, 5 Manx Shearwaters, 5+ adult Yellow-billed Loons, and more than 400 Red-throated Loons on the 17th. The temperature rose further to 16 degrees in the afternoon on the 21st, when the first Red Admirals of the year appeared in the garden.

Sedge Warblers seems to be unusually abundant this year, perhaps favourable conditions in the wintering grounds?

4 trapping attemps resulted in 98 birds ringed, strangely enough with Sedge Warbler as the most ringed species. The catch also included the first ever net-caught Mallards at Revtangen BO: MALLARD 2, Northern Lapwing 4 (young in a nearby field), Collared Dove 2, Barn Swallow 1, White Wagtail 1, Tree Pipit 2, Meadow Pipit 3, Northern Wheatear 1, Redwing 5, Fieldfare 11, Common Blackbird 1, GRASSHOPPER WARBLER 1, Sedge Warbler 20, Common Whitethroat 5, Lesser Whitethroat 3, Willow Warbler 13, Common Chiffchaff 2, Common Starling 7, House Sparrow 3, Lesser Redpoll 6, Common Linnet 5. Also 39 controls, including a Sedge Warbler from The Netherlands.

In addition to the 20 ringed, we've controlled two Sedge Warblers not from Revtangen: This one from the Netherlands, and one ringed nearby at Ergavatnet as a 1 cy in 2016.
