The first Water Rail of the autumn

A clear night and a cloudless day with almost no wind. Playback on Blackcap during the night and Grey Wagtail, Brambling and European Goldfinch during the day. Nets open 06.30-14, netmeter hours approx. 2500. Today the Blue Tits took a day off and allowed us to run a normal trapping session. Dawn brought a decent fall of Blackcaps and Goldcrests and a very good arrival of Winter Wrens by our standards.

Ringed: Water Rail 1, Meadow Pipit 9, Grey Wagtail 7, Winter Wren 21, Redwing 1, Common Blackbird 3, Fieldfare 1, Blackcap 20, Lesser Whitethroat 1, Chiffchaff 4, Willow Warbler 1, Goldcrest 20, Eurasian Treecreeper 2, Coal Tit 1, Great Tit 1, Blue Tit 25, House Sparrow 1, Tree Sparrow 1, Chaffinch 3, Brambling 27, Greenfinch 18, European Goldfinch 5, Common Linnet 2, Yellowhammer 1. Total = 176. Also 9 controls.
