Another day of westerlies 7-8 m/s. Not ideal, but flocks of Bramblings were on the move all day and some were lured into the nets with playback. Nets open 07.30-17, netmeter hours approx. 3200. Playback ob Yellow-browed Warbler and Garden Warbler throught the night had abolutely no effect, but playback on Brambling and European Goldfinch were both productive.

Ringed: GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL 1, European Robin 1, Common Blackbird 2, Blue Tit 23, Great Tit 6, House Sparrow 8, Tree Sparrow 1, Brambling 85, Greenfinch 6, European Goldfinch 1. Total = 134. Also 13 controls.

Branblings are easily aged by looking for contrasts in the greater coverts. In this 1 cy male the 3 outer gc are juvenile, with a contrasting paler colour. Also, black spopts in the orange lesser coverts are another sign of immaturity.
