April 1st-19th

The first half of April was unusually cold and windy, with strong winds up to gale force from N-NW and snow falling with sub-zero temoperatures during the night. From the 15th onwards things improved and migrants such as European Robins, Chiffchaffs and Goldcrests started to arrive. Some ringing was done on 8 dates, but all nets were used only on 3 dates.

The hightlight this period was this Jack Snipe on the 17th, only the 5th ringed and the first in spring. Kvartbekkasin.

Ringed, April 1st-19th: JACK SNIPE 1, Sparrowhawk 1, Wood Pigeon 3, Eurasian Collared Dove 1, White Wagtail 4, Meadow Pipit 2, Winter Wren 1, European Robin 47, Common Blackbird 10, Redwing 6, Song Thrush 3, Fieldfare 2, Chiffchaff 7, Goldcrest 13, Great Tit 3, Common Starling 2, House Sparrow 8, Tree Sparrow 3, Chaffinch 19, Brambling 1, Greenfinch 6, Common Linnet 2, Yellowhammer 6. Total = 151. Also 45 controls.

This 3 cy+ male Brambling was the first of the year on the 17th. Bjørkefink 3K+ hann.
